Mac + Files :)
Miles is my port of GNOME Files (you may know it as Nautilus) to MacOS. It looks and works the way Files does on GNOME, and follows the Mac wherever the Mac has its own way of doing things. I wrote about why I made it in I ported GNOME Files to MacOS.

Where did it come from?
Files is the file manager of the GNOME desktop on Linux. Miles is Files 51.0.1, changed so it runs on a Mac. It's still written in C with GTK 4 and Libadwaita, the same as Files.
I moved from GNOME to a Mac for work, and I missed Files the whole time. After two years I ported it, in October 2026. The first release was 51.0.1-mac.3.
What can you do in it?
- Search for files by name, without an index that has to be built first.
- Uninstall an app with a right-click, and take the settings and data it left in your Library along with it.
- See servers on your local network show up by themselves, and connect to SFTP, WebDAV, FTP, and AFP servers by address.
- Open iCloud Drive, Google Drive, and OneDrive from the sidebar.
- Delete to the Trash of MacOS, and put a file back where it came from with Restore.
- Have your folders follow the accent colour you picked in System Settings, in both the light and dark appearance.
- See a plain No Permission page when a folder is closed to you, in place of an empty one.

What is missing?
- Extensions, and with them Open in Terminal.
- Thumbnails. Pictures and documents show the icon of their type for now.
- Searching inside the contents of files.
- Saved passwords for servers.
- Opening a folder as administrator.
How do I install it?
With Homebrew, on a Mac with Apple silicon:
brew install astraldev/tap/miles
Then open it, and keep it in the Dock to find it again:
open "$(brew --prefix miles)/Miles.app"
There is also a disk image on the releases page. It needs MacOS 15 or newer, and since the app isn't signed, MacOS warns you the first time you open it.
Found a bug?
Open an issue on GitHub, bug reports help the most.
Miles is licensed under GPL v3 or later, the same as Files. It is unofficial, and isn't made, endorsed, or supported by the GNOME Project or by Apple. The icons are Yaru by the Ubuntu community.
